Fashion Q&A
Dear Jamileh:
I am going to interview for an intern position at a prestige law firm. I am 5’8” with an hourglass figure and am in my mid twenties. I want to look both professional and fashionable, what do you think is the most appropriate and flattering look for my age and body type?
- Andrea
Dear Andrea:
Most importantly you need to remember that you need to look professional as well as young and feminine. You should invest in a classic navy blue tailored knee length skirt suit which should emphasize the waistline. For the blouse, try a tank top that has a crew neckline in white or off white and accessorize it with a pair of closed toed navy heels and a bold necklace in your favorite color. With this look you will feel confident and fashionable for your profession and age.
- Good Luck, Jamileh
Dear Jamileh:
My daughter is getting married at an evening formal wedding this Fall. I am in my mid 50s and have an apple shaped figure. I want to look elegant and be able to wear this dress again at other formal occasions. What are your recommendations?
- Dottie
Dear Dottie:
Remember your daughter’s wedding day is an important day for you as well because she is a part of you, but you don’t want your dresses to compete with one another. I suggest you choose a muted color (for example mauve, midnight blue or emerald green) that has a boatneck and is floor length. The boatneck with emphasize your shoulder causing your waist and hip to look smaller. Make sure the dress is a bit fitted, but comfortable through the waist and has a bit of fullness from the hip down. To make the dress complete, I would add a long shawl that hit at the knee to elongate your body or a swing coat from the same or softer color fabric that hits at the hip in order to create an elegant and feminine shape. Feel free to add your favorite broach or corsage to add some glamour. This type of outfit can be worn or redesigned for another occasion.

Building a Couture wardobe
First let’s cover the definition of what “Couture” is. “Couture” pronounced as (Koo-Toor) is defined as the creation of exclusive custom-fitted clothing that is made to order for individual clients. Some people think that it is impossible to have a “Couture” wardrobe full of high quality and perfect fitting garments because of the incredible expense, when in all actuality it is very possible to acquire such an amazing closet full of “couture” pieces, by investing your time and money into long lasting pieces over cheaply made trendy looks. I believe it is more important to invest in the staples of your wardrobe and add trendy accessories to complete the look, keeping you professional, age appropriate, and most importantly fashionable.
Some people prefer understated styling, while others enjoy a more grand flair to their wardrobe, but no matter the person or style, designers like me can create flattering and long lasting looks in your favorite designs and colors to best represent your professional and personal lifestyle. With your designer’s help, you will select flattering colors, high quality fabric, and when put together will develop designs that will compliment your figure. Once the design process is complete, the intense attention to detail and construction is applied and allows the client to enjoy a perfect fitting and long lasting wardrobe. Some might ask the question “Why are these pieces so expensive?” Well you are paying for the personal service with your designer (which includes seasonal updates on your already existing custom made wardrobe with small investment for additional pieces), workmanship, originality of design, fit, and materials used in order to create a coordinated wardrobe. Think about it this way, let’s say you go shopping and spend an average of $300.00 a month on new and up to date trendy looks and after wear and tear and dry cleaning you have to replace them, resulting in you spending up to $3600.00 a year for clothes that you ultimately have to throw away because of their low quality versus spending $3600.00 on 3 suits that are custom made and designed especially for you and your lifestyle using flattering colors, prints, and fabrics that will last for 10 years based on the high quality workmanship that is applied to each individual piece.
